The Haveli police announced on Tuesday that they have solved the murder case of a 15-year-old boy discovered deceased at a farmhouse in Khanapur on Monday afternoon. Two 17-year-old boys residing in a neighboring farmhouse have been apprehended by the police. Both the deceased and the detained teenagers are from families entrusted with the caretaking duties of the two properties.
“The detained minors wanted to assault the elder brother of the deceased over some issue,” superintendent of police (Pune Rural) Pankaj Deshmukh said. “Investigation revealed that on Monday afternoon the deceased was sleeping in his room and had covered himself with a blanket. This is when the two reached there with an intent to teach his elder brother a lesson,” he added.
“They mistook the deceased for his brother and started assaulting him with a stick. The deceased woke up by the attack and threatened the two boys of reporting the matter to the police. At this point, one of the duo who was armed with a sharp weapon, and used the same for assaulting the victim on his head. This led to his death,” he said.
The mother of the victim is responsible for managing the farmhouse where the incident occurred, while the parents of the detained boys oversee the neighboring farmhouse.
The police narrowed down their investigation to the two boys after interrogating several boys from the vicinity who were acquainted with the deceased and his older brother. Additionally, the police conducted an investigation involving school-going boys from the area.
