Two farm workers lost their lives, and around 20 others sustained injuries, some critically, when their van collided with a tree near Munawalli village in Belagavi district on Wednesday.
Kenchappa Irananavar, 50, and Basappa, 16, died at the scene.
The injured were rushed to hospitals in Saundatti, with five in critical condition possibly requiring transfer to other facilities, according to police reports.
The passengers, all residents of Chunchanur village in Ramdurg taluk, returned home after picking cotton in Hebballi village, Navalgund taluk of Dharwad district when the accident occurred.
Saundatti Police Station has registered a case in connection with the incident.
