Udyambag police are probing an alleged land fraud in which two acres of a family’s ancestral land in Belagavi taluk were reportedly transferred to an outsider after eight people allegedly posed as the real owners at the sub-registrar’s office.
Although an FIR was registered in November 2025, the matter came to light recently following a tip-off by whistleblower and former Belagavi corporator Latifkhan Pathan. The complaint was lodged by Babu Gangaram Yallurkar, one of the eight rightful owners of the land in Survey No. 22/3 at Waghawade village in Belagavi taluk.
According to the complaint, the disputed registration occurred on March 18, 2023, at the Belagavi South sub-registrar’s office, when Padmanabha Gudi was the sub-registrar. The family claimed they discovered in November 2025 that the entire property had been transferred to Mallikarjun Jayaram Rashinge of Yadagud village in Hukkeri taluk.
When the family approached the sub-registrar’s office for clarification, they allegedly found that eight individuals had carried out the registration by impersonating the owners. Police sources said, “Of the eight original owners, three are deceased, while the others are alive.”
Pathan alleged that the accused forged documents, including Aadhaar cards, fabricated land records, and a sale deed bearing fake signatures, and that the transfer was carried out with the alleged involvement of officials at the sub-registrar’s office. Calling it a grave case of malpractice and corruption, he said such frauds threaten property security.
Udyambag police inspector D.K. Patil said an investigation is in progress and notices have been issued to the concerned departments seeking explanations. “We are also examining the allegation of fake Aadhaar cards,” he said, adding that further action would be taken after document verification.
