Traffic movement on the busy Jamboti-Chorla-Goa stretch between Kalmane and Amte villages has been crippled since last night after a multi-axle lorry broke down in the middle of the road. While another goods vehicle attempted to bypass it, the road caved in, causing the lorry to overturn.
The incident has resulted in long queues of vehicles on both sides. Students on their way to schools and colleges, along with office-goers and traders, have been stranded for hours, facing severe inconvenience since early morning. Commuters between Belagavi and Goa have been stuck for over five to six hours, blaming authorities for permitting multi-axle traffic on this route. Apart from frequent accidents and congestion, locals allege that these heavy vehicles are also damaging the newly built Chorla Road.
Residents and travelers have urged the administration to clear the road at the earliest, while demanding strict curbs on multi-axle vehicle movement along this stretch.
