In the early hours of Wednesday (September 18, 2024), three individuals were stabbed during a Ganesha idol immersion procession in Belagavi. The victims, identified as Darshan Patil, Satish Pujari, and Praveen Gundyagol, were attacked while dancing near the Kittur Channamma Circle. All three sustained stomach injuries but are now out of danger, having been admitted to the hospital with the help of police and members of the Ganesh Mandals.
Police suspect the two groups involved were acquainted; an investigation is underway. Investigators are interviewing the victims and their associates. “One of the victims mentioned that the attack was unexpected, but we have clues suggesting the groups knew each other,” a police officer stated.
A case is being registered, and investigations are ongoing.
