In the suicide case of SDA Rudresh Yadavannavar, who was found hanged in the Belagavi tahsildar’s office nine days ago, a local court granted anticipatory bail to three accused individuals on Thursday following police inaction on their arrest.
Hours before his death, Yadavannavar had posted in the Belagavi tahsildar’s office WhatsApp group, alleging that tahsildar Basavaraj Nagaral, minister Laxmi Hebbalkar’s PA Somu Dodwadi, and FDA Ashok Kabbaliger were directly responsible for his suffering. Despite these allegations, police efforts to apprehend the accused remained limited, allowing them to secure anticipatory bail.
Another message from Yadavannavar in the group, which went viral posthumously, stated, “We faced a lot of injustice in our office, and everyone should fight unitedly against it.” Sources indicate his messages reflected the harassment he faced from the accused, ultimately leading him to take his life.
Three days ago, former Chief Minister and Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar criticized the government for allegedly shielding the accused by not arresting them, claiming that police were under pressure from political heavyweights. He alleged that the trio had financially harassed Yadavannavar, pushing him to this tragic end, and questioned why the tahsildar and PA absconded if they were innocent.
