Belagavi Police have registered a suo motu case against three X (formerly Twitter) account holders for spreading false information regarding Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. A deleted post had falsely claimed that RSS activists vandalized the residence of Col. Qureshi’s father-in-law in Konnur, located in Gokak taluk of Belagavi district.
The District CEN Police Station has named Anees Uddin, Khubaani, and Drrummii as the accused in the case.
According to Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled, Anees Uddin posted the misinformation using Col. Qureshi’s name, and the post was subsequently shared by the other two. A suo motu case was registered on Thursday for promoting enmity between communities and inciting unrest.
Guled added that the post has been taken down and the police have requested user details from X. “If the accused is in India, we will arrest him. If he is in Canada, we will approach the Centre for diplomatic support to seek extradition,” he stated.
