Police have detained 12 individuals in connection with the stone-pelting incident reported in Belagavi on Friday night.
The clash took place during the Urs procession of Mehboob Subhani Durgah in the old city. Tensions arose when residents of Shaniwar Khoot and Jalgar Galli objected to a change in the procession’s route and raised concerns over slogans of “I love Mohammad.”
Following heated arguments, stones were hurled at the procession.
Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao, Deputy Commissioner Narayan Baramani, and other officials inspected the site.
A case was registered at the Market Police Station. Officials said the names of 50 people have been listed, with 12 currently detained for questioning.
