Days prior to the Lok Sabha elections, the Static Surveillance Team (SST) confiscated Rs 6.65 lakh in cash at the Bachi checkpost in Belagavi taluk, situated along the Karnataka-Maharashtra border, during the early hours of Tuesday.
During routine vehicle checks at the border, the SST team, headed by Prashant Dixit, discovered the cash. Amul Vidyadhar, a Belagavi resident, was found transporting the money in his vehicle without proper documentation.
On the preceding Friday, authorities seized Rs 7.98 lakh in cash at the Kanakumbi check post in Belagavi district’s Khanapur taluk. The cash was discovered in possession of Sanjay Basavaraja Reddy, a Belagavi resident, who was traveling from Goa to Belagavi on a government bus. The inspection at the check post revealed the cash without proper documentation, according to district official Nitesh Patil. Subsequently, the confiscated cash was deposited into the treasury of the Khanapur sub-division, as per the Khanapur Assistant Election Officer.
