The Belgaum Rural police have arrested Anish Maitrani and Sunish Maitrani, the proprietors of Sneham Tape Solutions Pvt Ltd, for allegedly failing to implement adequate fire safety measures at their adhesive tape manufacturing factory. This follows a major fire at their Navage facility on Wednesday, which resulted in one death and three injuries.
The fire, fueled by a large quantity of chemicals stored at the factory, continued burning until Friday despite efforts from the fire brigade and SDRF personnel. A case has been filed with the rural police, and an investigation is ongoing.
There were concerns that the remains of a deceased laborer, Yallappa Gundyagol, were improperly handled by the police. Sannagouda Gundyagol, the deceased’s father, clarified that the remains were placed in a clay pot for traditional final rites, with the pot being secured in a plastic bag to protect it from the rain. He confirmed that the remains were received and the last rites were performed according to tradition.
