Suresh, a resident of the United States originally from Varanasi, has created Google’s ‘Hear to Read’ software to assist visually impaired individuals in using computers. Siddalingeshwar Ingalagi, who is visually impaired and from Bailahongala in Belgaum district, has played a crucial role in integrating the Kannada language into this software development process.
Siddhalingeshwar meticulously recorded the pronunciation of each Kannada word and number in the software, compiling and reporting it to Suresh. Moreover, he contributed to enhancing the software’s efficiency. Siddhalingeshwar Ingalagi, a visually impaired individual from Bailahongala, played a crucial part in integrating the Kannada language into the software designed by an American of Indian origin, aimed at assisting visually impaired individuals in using computers.
Suresh, originally from Varanasi, has been residing in the United States for several decades. At the age of 65, he lost his vision 15 years ago. Since then, he has undertaken numerous initiatives to benefit visually impaired individuals. Suresh has developed the ‘Hear to Read’ software to facilitate computer usage for the visually impaired.
The software reads aloud the letters and words shown on the computer screen, allowing visually impaired individuals to type accurately. It supports several Indian languages, including Kannada. Siddalingeshwar has provided essential support for integrating the Kannada language into this software.
