A major fire erupted late Monday night (June 16) at an automobile shop situated across from the Deshpande petrol pump on Fort Road, causing significant property damage.
Preliminary reports suggest a suspected short circuit triggered the fire, which rapidly engulfed the premises due to the presence of fibre-based combustible materials. Fire and emergency teams were deployed immediately and are working to bring the situation under control.
The fire is believed to have started on the third floor. Firefighters had to smash glass windows to gain entry and combat the flames from inside. The incident drew a large crowd, necessitating police intervention to manage the gathering.
