In a decisive move against drug-related activities, Belagavi police arrested seven individuals in two separate cases for the illegal possession and sale of ganja.
Case 1 – Shaurya Circle Raid (Camp PS Jurisdiction)
On June 14, acting on reliable intelligence, ACP J. Raghu from the CEN Crime Station and his team conducted a raid near Shaurya Circle. Two individuals — Kira Gundu Adava (21) from Navina Galli, Ambewadi, and Rahul from Shinolli — were apprehended while selling ganja in a public place. Police seized 2 kg (2000 grams) of ganja during the operation.
A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station under Crime No. 48/2025, invoking Sections 20(i) and (ii)(A) of the NDPS Act. Legal action is in progress, and further investigation is ongoing.
Case 2 – Ganja Racket Busted in Ayodhyanagar
In a separate crackdown, Tilakwadi Police arrested five persons involved in supplying ganja to school and college students in Bhawaninagar, Mandoli Road, Godsewadi, and Tilakwadi.
The accused have been identified as:
- Vinayak Kolhapure (29)
- Sandesh Gawli (24)
- Kumar Pujari (39)
- Rohit Mulve (30)
- Saurabh Sathuskar (22) — all residents of Bhawaninagar, Belagavi.
Inspector Parshuram Pujeri stated that the group had been operating for several months, targeting students to fuel their addiction. Acting on credible input, a trap was set near First Cross, Godsewadi in Ayodhyanagar, where the suspects were caught red-handed. A total of 494 grams of ganja worth ₹14,000 was seized.
Additionally, the police confiscated a Zen car valued at ₹2 lakh, four mobile phones, and ₹2,500 in cash. All five accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody in Hindalga Jail.
This was the first anti-narcotics operation under the charge of newly appointed Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse, who praised Inspector Pujeri and his team for their prompt and effective action.
