District Minister Satish Jarakiholi conducted an inspection of flood conditions at Krishna River shores in Kudachi and Diggewadi villages on Thursday. He assessed several areas in Raibag taluk, including the submerged Kudachi-Ugar bridge on the Jamakhandi-Miraj State Highway in Kudachi town, to monitor water levels. Later, he visited Diggewadi village to review the flood situation.
Addressing the media in Kudachi, Satish Jarkiholi stated that precautionary measures have been implemented in flood-prone areas. Plans for relocating residents from vulnerable villages have been prepared in anticipation of potential floods, especially when the river’s water level reaches 3 lakh cusecs. Continuous monitoring of the situation is underway.
The district administration has ensured readiness to manage floods, including deploying rescue teams and establishing 427 care centres in strategic locations. Although some residents are hesitant to move to these centres or safe areas, authorities are actively encouraging them to do so.
Regarding flood relief efforts, the state government is considering providing ₹3 lakh for housing construction to families affected by heavy rains. Additionally, various other schemes and central government assistance will be offered to aid those impacted. Minister Jarkiholi assured that although ₹5 lakh compensation cannot be extended to all affected individuals, efforts are being made to support everyone even with reduced aid.
Minister Jarkiholi also visited the home of farmer Basavaraj Bhimappa Sagare in Diggewadi village, who tragically took his own life due to financial distress, and provided solace to the bereaved family. He instructed the district administration to promptly grant ₹5 lakh compensation to Basavaraj’s wife Shobha and their two children.
DC Mohammad Roshan informed that the Koyna Dam is currently 70% full, with 10,000 cusecs of water already released from its reservoir. Maharashtra has issued a red alert for three days, and coordination is ongoing with officials there regarding water releases. He assured the public that there is no immediate cause for concern.
Efforts are underway to evacuate villagers to care centres based on the evolving situation. Currently, 35 boats are available district-wide, with additional boats potentially being sourced from Karwar if needed. NDRF teams have been stationed in Khanapur to assist in emergency response.
Various officials including ZP CEO Rahul Shinde, probationary IAS officer Dinesh Kumar Meena, Assistant Commissioner of Chikodi Subhas Sampagamvi, Tahsildar of Raibag KS Kulkarni, President of Buda Laxmanrao Chingale, and representatives from several departments were present during the assessments and discussions.
