Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Wednesday visited and inspected the site of a new bridge being constructed across the Ghataprabha River near Lolsur on the outskirts of Gokak, at an estimated cost of ₹30.21 crore.
Speaking to media representatives later, he said that the new bridge would significantly improve the movement of people and vehicles once completed. “The elevated bridge will also prove useful during the rainy season and in times of floods,” he said.
He added that the new structure will come up between the narrow bridge built during the British era and another bridge constructed in 1964. “Officials have been instructed to ensure that the construction work does not cause any damage to the existing bridges,” he said.

He directed officials to complete the work at the earliest to ensure temporary arrangements and smooth movement of vehicles.
