A tragic incident occurred in Rayat Galli, Vadgaon, Belagavi, when 24-year-old Shubham Datta Birje allegedly murdered his mother-in-law, Renuka Padmuki (43), during a dispute over caregiving responsibilities. The incident took place on Tuesday morning in the Shahapur police station area.
Shubham, a resident of Rayat Galli, had been married to Renuka’s daughter, Chhaya, for seven months. Renuka had been visiting her daughter’s home to help take care of Chhaya, who had been unwell for the past three days. Shubham reportedly did not take care of his wife, forcing Renuka to step in and attend to her.
An argument erupted between the two families over the matter, which escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, Shubham allegedly stabbed Renuka with a sharp knife, and she succumbed to her injuries while being rushed to the hospital.
The Shahapur police quickly arrested Shubham, his mother Sujata Birje, and father Datta Birje in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
This tragic event occurred during the Sankranti festival, adding a layer of sorrow to an already difficult situation. It highlights the destructive consequences of unresolved familial disputes.
