A grant of Rs 30 crore has been allocated for the development of a theme park at Kittur, aimed at preserving the historical significance of Kittur Fort for future generations. Revenue Minister Krishna Bhairegowda made the announcement during the Bhumi Pooja and foundation stone laying ceremony for the conservation of Rani Channamma’s Kittur Fort and Palace, held on Tuesday (Oct 8). The Kittur Development Authority and the Department of Archaeology Museums and Heritage, Mysuru organized the event.
The project includes Rs 12.11 crore for essential repairs to various structures such as the fort’s entrance and walls, and Rs 2.4 crore for other related works. Over the past year, local MLAs have urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to expedite the approval of these funds. Sections of the fort, currently in disrepair, will undergo significant restoration in line with the original architectural style.
While the initial goal was to complete the work for the 200th anniversary of Kittur’s victory, the timeline has been extended to ensure high-quality restoration. Alongside fort repairs, Rs 3 crore has been allocated for the construction of Rani Channamma Bhavan, and various other projects totaling Rs 18 crore are in progress.
A comprehensive plan is in place to make Kittur a key tourist destination in North Karnataka. A tender for a modern park, aimed at educating the public about Kittur’s history, will soon be issued, supported by a Rs 30 crore grant. Additionally, Rs 5 crore has been allocated for the Kittur Utsav, which will be celebrated with great grandeur this year.
