The Pyaas Foundation has launched its third lake restoration project of the year in Gajapati village, situated approximately 28 kilometers from Belgaum city. The village has a population of approximately 2,600 residents and is also home to around 500 cattle.
As per the Pyaas Foundation management, the lake currently suffers from inadequate depth, leading to its depletion during the summer season. In response, the Foundation intends to enhance the depth of the 6.4-acre lake by 6 feet and reinforce its embankments. The project is slated for completion by the beginning of June.
The main aim of this endeavor is to capture all the rainfall in the area, thereby enhancing groundwater levels and notably augmenting water levels in nearby wells and borewells. Kiran Jinagouda and Balchandra Badan, serving as CSR partners for Pyaas through Jinabakul Forge, along with Pyaas secretary Dr. Preeti Kore and members Avadhoot Samant, Satish Lad, Rohan, Laxmikant, and Abhimanyu, attended the ceremony at the lake site.
