Contemplations are ongoing regarding the potential establishment of a luxury hotel within the premises of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS). Reports suggest a considerable interest from various investors in participating in this envisioned project.
The specified plot of 20 acres, adjacent to the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway-4 and originally allocated for legislator residences, is currently under consideration for a transformation into a star hotel. The Public Works Department has submitted a proposal to the Speaker and Chairman of the Legislative Council, advocating for the construction of the hotel. Speaker UT Khader disclosed this proposal during a recent interaction with the media.
The proposal suggests that if legislator houses are built on the designated land, their usage would be limited to the annual legislative session in Belagavi. During the remaining days of the year, these houses would remain unutilized, incurring substantial maintenance costs for the government. Alternatively, by allowing private entities to develop a commercial star hotel on the site, the government could generate revenue.
The proposed hotel could serve as accommodation for legislators and officials during the legislative sessions, potentially saving significant expenses associated with their stay. The government is currently deliberating whether to invest in the hotel’s construction and subsequently lease it to private entities or allow private investors to fund the entire project. Notably, several prominent companies have already expressed interest in contributing to the venture even before the government reaches a decision.
DC Nitesh Patil informed reporters that discussions are ongoing to finalize the decision, exploring options such as building a star hotel, constructing legislator residences, or involving the Karnataka Housing Board Corporation (KHBC). In the case of the star hotel, the proposal is still undergoing deliberation at this stage.
