President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the 300-bed KLES Cancer Hospital in Belagavi on December 30 at 4 pm. The hospital, built at a cost of ₹300 crore, has been functioning for several months, with its formal inauguration scheduled for this occasion. The event will be attended by Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, and other local dignitaries.
Located behind the Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre, the facility spans 1,75,000 sq ft and is named after Dr. Sampatkumar S. Shivanagi, who donated ₹8 crore for its construction. Dr. Shivanagi, originally from Athani, now residing in the U.S., is known for his ties to former President Donald Trump.
The KLES Cancer Hospital, a part of the KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER), provides comprehensive cancer care services, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, stem cell and bone marrow transplants, pediatric oncology, gynecology, head and neck oncology, and more. The hospital also features a daycare center for chemotherapy and offers nutritional counseling, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation services.
The hospital is equipped with advanced technologies, including Varian Halcyon Elite and Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerators for precise radiation therapy, and a bone marrow transplant unit. It is the only facility between Bengaluru and Mumbai offering comprehensive cancer care at subsidized rates.
In line with its mission to provide accessible treatment, the hospital also offers various government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Vajpayee Arogya, and Rajeev Arogya Bhagya for eligible patients. Additionally, genomic-guided precision cancer care will soon be available, enabling personalized treatment based on a patient’s genetic profile.
