An incident involving the illegal transportation of crores of rupees occurred near Halagatti village in Ramdurga taluk of Belgaum district on Friday. The police conducting a raid at the check post of Halagatti village in Ramadurga taluk, Belagavi district, seized ₹1.1 crore in cash from the village accountant’s car, which was being transported without proper documentation.
Nippani village accountant Vitthala Shivappa Dhavleswar was reportedly transporting money illegally from Belgaum to Bagalkot in his car. Acting on specific information, Ramadurga police conducted a raid and seized the cash, which has now been handed over to the Income Tax authorities. The operation was led by Ramadurga Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Pandurangaiah.
