Mahesh Mallikarjun Desai, a student from Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Tavag, Gokak taluk, was honored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the “Janjatiya Gaurav Divas” event held in Jamui, Bihar, on November 15.
Mahesh earned this recognition after excelling in a painting competition organized by the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) in Delhi, progressing through school, state, and national levels. Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram praised the achievements of the six selected students, including Mahesh, who was the sole representative from Karnataka.
Ajeet Kumar Srivastava, commissioner of NESTS, announced a cash award of ₹15,000 for each of the six students and commended Mahender Singh, principal of EMRS Tavag, encouraging the school to foster innovation among its students.
