Health officials, headed by Dr. Vivek Dore, deputy director of Karnataka Private Medical Establishment (KPME) and Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) in Bengaluru, conducted a raid on a private gynaecology hospital in Gokak on Monday evening. They confiscated a scanning machine due to accusations of unauthorized detection of fetal gender.
Acting on a tip-off, officials conducted the raid. Sources revealed that at the time of the raid, four pregnant women were admitted to the hospital under suspicion of gender detection. Additionally, a doctor was apprehended while accepting payment for unauthorized fetal gender determination. Authorities confiscated the money and the scanning equipment, and closed down the hospital. Present during the raid were Dr. Mahesh Koni from Belagavi DHO, Dr. Muttanna Koppad from Gokak THO, and PSI K. Walikar.
