Land acquisition notices are being issued in the Sambra area to widen the Belagavi-Bagalkot state highway. Within the next two days, lathis will deliver these notices to all affected residents and businesses along the highway. This marks the second phase of the project, which aims to expand the road to 100 feet wide.
In the initial phase, the stretch from Marutinagar to Nilji was expanded to a double lane, while the road past Nilji remains a single lane. A recent survey evaluated the need for further widening, and the updated plan includes 50 feet on each side from the centerline, along with 10 feet reserved for sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.
Some homeowners have already left open space in anticipation of the project, but many buildings, especially those between Nilji and Mutga village near the airport entrance, are close to the existing road. The expansion will impact numerous homes and businesses in this area, potentially requiring relocations.
Talathis received the notices two days ago and will begin distribution on Thursday, November 14. The notices restrict any new construction within the identified land acquisition area. Families whose property is acquired will be eligible for compensation under the project guidelines.
The road expansion up to Sambra Airport is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, with nearby villages already advised to account for future expansion in their construction plans.
