Belgaum police have apprehended nine out of 17 individuals accused of brutally assaulting a brother and sister in the city. The victims, residents of Yamnapur on the outskirts of Belgaum, were attacked while trying to register for the Yuva Nidhi scheme at Fort Lake premises. Technical difficulties with the registration process led to a three-hour assault, with the assailants mistakenly assuming a romantic involvement between the siblings. Despite their attempts to clarify, the pleas of the victims went unheard. The attackers confined them to a shed, subjecting them to physical and emotional trauma.
Upon learning of the distressing incident, the victims’ family rushed to the scene, guided by the victims’ call for help. The family, with courage and determination, located the shed and rescued their loved ones. The victims are currently receiving critical care in the Intensive Care Unit at the district hospital, their lives forever altered by the senseless violence they endured.
Local Market station police acted promptly, arresting two minors identified as culprits in the crime. However, investigations are ongoing, with authorities reviewing CCTV footage and other clues to apprehend the remaining suspects. Former Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader K.S. Eshwarappa visited the victims, demanding justice and urging the State government to showcase its secular credentials by arresting all accused individuals.
Deputy Commissioner Rohan Jagadish assured the public that investigators are diligently pursuing the case and will soon apprehend the remaining suspects. The arrested individuals, including Umar Sadiq, Saif Ali, Mohammad, Atif, Aman, Rihan, and Azan, face legal consequences for their involvement in this heinous act.
