A groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming park at Camp Dhobighat, Belagavi, was held with enthusiasm on Monday morning. The park project is being undertaken with a sanctioned grant of ₹19 lakh from the Municipal Development Authority.
The ceremony was presided over by Belgaum North MLA Asif Sait, with Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee, Chairman of the Belagavi Cantonment Board and MLIRC, attending as the chief guest. Brigadier Mukherjee formally launched the development work after a traditional puja and aarti.
MLA Asif Sait commended the efforts of Brigadier Mukherjee, the Chief Executive Officer, and past board members for their dedication to preserving water resources and promoting greenery within the Cantonment.
“A thoughtfully designed park will soon come up at Dhobighat. ₹19 lakh has been allocated through the Municipal Development Authority. Work will commence right away and is expected to conclude before the monsoon ends,” said Sait.
Brigadier Mukherjee noted that the rainwater harvesting project at Dhobighat was completed two months ago. With that initiative wrapped up, the focus now shifts to converting the space into an ecological park.
“This park will serve as a refreshing spot for morning and evening walkers, as well as fitness lovers,” he remarked. Highlighting the importance of public participation, Brigadier Mukherjee added, “The Cantonment area is a shared space. While the Board strives to enhance its beauty, residents also share the responsibility of its upkeep.”
