Nearly 100 soldiers, along with local panchayat members, took part in the Swachhta Abhiyan at Savagaon Lake on Monday.
The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) launched the drive soon after Ganesh Visarjan, when the lake area is left littered with floral offerings, immersion remains, and plastic waste.
The initiative was held under the guidance of MLIRC Commandant Brigadier Joydip Mukherjee and led on the ground by Captain Jineesh K., supported by two JCOs and around 100 soldiers.
Members of the Savagaon Panchayat, along with families and children, also joined the effort, highlighting the strong connection between the Army and the local community.
The combined effort helped restore the lake’s surroundings while spreading awareness about environmental care and civic responsibility.
According to a release, the initiative reflected the Army’s commitment not only to national security but also to community welfare, setting an example for a cleaner, greener Belagavi.
