Acting on specific information, Malamaruti police conducted a raid at the residence of a paediatrician in Belagavi and allegedly seized 134 grams of marijuana, raising serious concerns over professional responsibility and public confidence. The doctor has been taken into custody in connection with the case.
According to reports, the police operation took place at the doctor’s house in Shivabasava Nagar. During the search, ganja was reportedly recovered from a bedroom inside the premises. Investigators also indicated that the doctor may have consumed the substance.
City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase told the media that Malamaruti police carried out the raid and recovered ganja concealed in the bedroom. He stated that a case was registered under the NDPS Act on January 9 after 134 grams of ganja were found in the accused’s house. He added that the doctor’s role—whether the substance was meant for sale or personal use—is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case has sparked concern among the public, especially because the accused is a paediatrician entrusted with the health and safety of children.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported a similar incident in Vikarabad, where a doctor running a private hospital was arrested for allegedly operating a ganja racket under the guise of medical practice. Police recovered 65 grams of ganja in that case, and the doctor was remanded to judicial custody. Investigators said he had turned to the illegal drug trade for quick money and had been sourcing ganja through an agent and supplying it to known contacts.
