Laxmi Hebbalkar, who serves as the Minister for Women and Child Welfare, joined senior citizens in Belgaum for a purposeful stroll during the Senior Walkathon event held on a Sunday. The primary objective was to raise awareness about the importance of geriatric care.

The Senior Walkathon, organized by local non-governmental organizations, Agasthya Foundation and Seva Mitra, marked the inauguration of a new geriatric service for senior citizens in Belgaum and its adjacent areas. These organizations are planning to establish a Senior Helpline staffed by dedicated volunteers who will assist senior citizens in accessing healthcare and other essential services.

During the event, Minister Hebbalkar pledged her support for this valuable initiative. She encouraged senior citizens, particularly women, to strive for an independent and healthy lifestyle. In her words, “In the end, we all age, but we should realize that we don’t have to rely on others during our later years.”

Notable individuals present at the event included Poornimadevi Jagatap, the chairperson of Agasthya Foundation, Venkata Ramana from the Ashok Iron group, and Seva Mitra members Naveen Udoshi, Shashikala Koppad, Askhay Deshpande, among others.
