An indefinite strike by KSRTC employees left several commuters stranded at the Central Bus Stand in Belagavi from early Tuesday morning. Only a limited number of buses were operational.
Passengers, who had arrived to travel for work and other purposes, were seen seeking updates on available transport and exploring alternate travel options. Many eventually grouped up and opted for maxicabs, which capitalized on the ongoing strike.
Several bus stops across the city saw stranded commuters, many unaware of the strike, waiting for buses.
Students from rural areas, dependent on buses for commuting to schools and colleges, were among those affected in the early hours.
Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase stated that around 30% of buses were running from the Central Bus Stand and that police security had been deployed. Private operators were also warned against overcharging. NWKRTC officials continued to monitor and update the situation, with preparatory meetings held on Monday to manage the impact.
