The Karnataka government is set to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Kittur with grand events, as announced by Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Friday. During a meeting with senior officials in Belagavi, he outlined plans to ensure meaningful celebrations, including rural sports, folk art performances, and discussion sessions. A lecture series on the history of the Kittur royal family and the freedom struggle will also be organised, with local artists given priority for cultural events.
A special committee will oversee the launch of a commemorative edition marking the bicentenary, while a district-level committee will be responsible for selecting artists. Various venues will be named after freedom fighters, and their descendants will be invited to the celebrations. Additionally, women achievers from different fields will be recognised and honoured. Mass lunches will be held for three days, and the Karnataka Folklore University will design an event logo. The Education Department will organise state-level essay and quiz competitions for students.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan added that an air show is being planned, and a request will be made to the Department of Posts to release special stamps.
