Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a productive meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, where he presented a letter detailing Karnataka’s major requests to enhance state security and development.
The Karnataka Chief Minister proposed the implementation of a Safe City Project modeled after Bengaluru’s initiative under the Nirbhaya Fund. This project aims to cover Mysuru, Hubli-Dharwad, Mangaluru, Belgaum, and Kalaburagi, with each city receiving Rs.200 Crores, totaling Rs.1000 Crores.
The Safe City project, funded under the Nirbhaya scheme by the Government of India, is designed to ensure the safety of women and children. Its objective is to establish secure and supportive environments in public spaces, enabling women to pursue opportunities free from gender-based violence and harassment. The initiative seeks to prevent and address crimes against women and girls in public areas through improved urban infrastructure and better access to law enforcement agencies. The Empowered Committee under the Nirbhaya fund has sanctioned Safe City projects in eight cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow.
