Arvind Srivastav, the General Manager of the Southwest Railway Zone, convened a crucial session with officials in Hubballi to discuss railway matters concerning Belgaum district. The meeting was chaired by Iranna Kadadi, a member of the Rajya Sabha.
Iranna Kadadi, a member of the Rajya Sabha, chaired a meeting with senior officers from the South Western Railway to review the status of railway projects in Belgaum district. A key agenda item was the persistent request to extend the Vande Bharat Express to Belgaum. Kadadi emphasized the significance of this extension for the local community.
He highlighted the sluggish pace of the new railway line being built from Dharwad through Kittur and urged officials to accelerate the construction. Furthermore, he advocated for the reinstatement of passenger train services between Belgaum and Miraj, including stops at Khanapur, Ghataprabha, and Raibag stations, facilitating travel to Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Kadadi also suggested initiating new train services linking Belgaum with key cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Tirupati, Mangaluru, Hyderabad, Bidar, and Solapur to enhance public convenience, given the district’s proximity to Maharashtra and Goa.
The meeting also discussed the building of pedestrian overpasses, installation of escalators on platform 4, commencement of an additional pitline at Desur, and other infrastructure projects.
