Initiatives are in progress to equip Belgaum Airport with the facilities needed to achieve international status. Plans include acquiring an additional 14 acres of land, with discussions ongoing with the Air Force regarding space. A new terminal is also in the works, while the existing terminal will be repurposed for cargo services. MP Jagdish Shettar provided these updates.
A review meeting held at the collector’s office on Friday addressed the development of airport, railway, and highway projects in Belgaum. Shettar informed the media that the land acquisition process for the Belgaum-Dharwad railway line via Kittoor is moving slowly, and the state government has been urged to expedite it. The new airport terminal is 30 percent complete, with the remaining work expected to finish by 2025.
Ring road construction to resume in October
The construction of the ring road around Belgaum City, which has been stalled, will resume in October. Land acquisition efforts are ongoing, and the pace of the ring road work will be accelerated. Shettar also assured that all delayed projects in Belgaum will see progress in the coming days. The meeting was attended by District Collector Mohammad Roshan, Airport Director Thiagarajan, and other officials.
