The Chairman of the Legislative Council, Basavaraj Horatti, has urged the State government to proactively address concerns raised by protestors ahead of the winter session, aiming to reduce the number of demonstrations in front of Suvarna Soudha. In letters to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and key ministers, including Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, Agriculture Minister N. Chaluvarayaswami, and Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, Horatti emphasized the need to create an environment where people’s issues are resolved promptly, minimizing the necessity for protests.
Over the years, Horatti noted the prevalence of numerous organizations staging protests throughout the winter session in front of Suvarna Soudha. This has often overshadowed the importance of session discussions, diverting attention to the protests and impacting the valuable time of ministers and officials.
The protests typically revolve around concerns related to farmers, revenue, and education. Horatti proposed that the government engage with protestors beforehand to address their issues, suggesting the deployment of senior officers to Belagavi in advance. By doing so, the government can ensure a peaceful session, and legislators should approach this matter with increased seriousness to enhance the government’s reputation.
