A prisoner at Hindalga Jail was seriously injured in an attack by fellow inmates on Friday, in retaliation for an earlier assault on their relative in Belagavi.
Hitesh Kumar Chavan, originally from Bihar and currently residing in Ramtheerthanagar, sustained severe injuries during the incident and has been admitted to the Karnataka Medical College and Research Centre in Hubballi.
The attack was carried out by undertrials Basavaraj Holeppa Daddi, Basavanni Siddappa Naik, Savina Siddappa Daddi, and Pradhan Shekhar Wagmode, who were seeking revenge for an assault on their relative, Laxman Daddi, by Hitesh Chavan just days prior. Laxman Daddi’s relatives, who were already incarcerated in Hindalga Jail, learned of the assault and subsequently confronted Hitesh Chavan.
The police have registered a new case against the assailants.
