The Hidkal and Rakaskop reservoirs, key water sources for Belagavi city, currently hold higher water levels than last year. Despite the improved storage, authorities have urged residents to conserve water and prevent wastage.
Increased Storage Levels
Rakaskop Reservoir: With a maximum capacity of 2,476 feet, the current level is 2,473.35 feet—1.4 feet higher than last year’s 2,471.95 feet.
Hidkal Reservoir: Holding 42.241 TMC of its 51 TMC capacity, it shows an increase of 4.307 TMC from last year’s 38.534 TMC.
This boost in storage is credited to favorable rainfall in the past year, ensuring a stable water supply through May.
While current water levels are sufficient, Belagavi residents receive water every 3 to 4 days and are encouraged to use it judiciously. Authorities hope to avoid the severe shortages often seen in April and May but emphasize the importance of responsible water use to maintain an uninterrupted supply throughout the summer.
