Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has warned against fake doctor clinics across Karnataka under the K.P.M.E. Amendment Act.
Addressing a query by member Govinda Raju in the Legislative Council, the Minister outlined the legal requirements for operating clinics. As per Section 5 of the K.P.M.E. Amendment Act, 2017, all private medical institutions must apply for registration and secure a K.P.M.E. Registration Certificate to function legally.
To address violations, a district-level Registration and Grievance Authority has been set up under Section 4 of the K.P.M.E. Act, 2007. The Deputy Commissioner chairs this committee and includes the District Health and Family Welfare Officer as the Member Secretary, along with the District AYUSH Officer, an IMA representative, and a woman representative.
The Minister revealed enforcement updates, citing that since January 2021, 134 fake doctor clinics have been detected in the Kolar district. Actions taken so far include:
Closure of 102 clinics
Seizure of 16 clinics
Filing of 8 P.C.R. cases, with one upgraded to an FIR
Ongoing investigations in 7 cases
Reaffirming the government’s stance, Minister Gundu Rao emphasized that safeguarding public health and ensuring the legitimacy of healthcare services remain top priorities.
