Police have arrested a guest lecturer from a private college on charges of wrongdoing involving a minor student.
The accused, identified as Nageshwar Deminakoppa, was taken into custody by the Camp Police, who have registered a POCSO case. According to the complaint, the lecturer had been exploiting the student over the past two years and had allegedly threatened her with harm if she revealed the matter. He has been remanded to judicial custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
Separate case: POCSO complaint filed 13 years after incident
In another incident, a POCSO case has been filed in Chamarajanagar nearly 13 years after a former student raised allegations against a teacher. The issue resurfaced during an alumni meet, where the survivor claimed that a teacher, Benny Varkeys, had mistreated her while she was studying at a private school in Kollegal.
The survivor, now an adult, said the incident occurred during the 2012–2013 academic year. As she was a minor at the time, a case under the POCSO Act has been registered.
The FIR was filed by Sunshine Children Campus CEO Sanjeev Sadanand Mahapure, stating that a student from his institution had faced misconduct from a teacher during her school years. Kollegal Town Police are conducting further investigation. Chamarajanagar SP Dr. B.T. Kavita confirmed that teacher Benny Varkeys has been suspended.
