The Rotary Club of Belgaum South, in collaboration with the Rotary Gold Coast Club from the U.S., has successfully completed 15 free heart surgeries through the Gift of Life program in Belgaum district.
Among the recent recipients was a two-year-old girl suffering from Atrial Septal Defect, hailing from an economically disadvantaged family in a village in Belgaum district. The surgery was performed at KLES Prabhakar Kore Hospital under the supervision of Senior Paediatric Cardiologist Veeresh Manvi, who diagnosed the condition and recommended the necessary heart surgery to close the hole in the girl’s heart.
The surgical team, led by Gananjay Salve along with cardiac anaesthetists, conducted the operation. Following successful recovery, the girl was recently discharged, as per a statement by Rotary grants coordinator Chaitanya Kulkarni.
The girl’s father, Hanumath Sarvi from Hirebudnur village near Saundatti in Belgaum district, tragically passed away in a road accident. His family members honored his memory by donating his organs, including liver, kidneys, and eyes.
Members of the Rotary Club Belgaum South, including Neelesh Patil, Bhushan Mohitre, Arati Angadi, and others, visited the patient’s family to offer support, according to the press release.
