The ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Sanvidhan’ rally, planned for Friday in Belagavi, has been called off following the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar confirmed the cancellation on Thursday night.
The rally was a part of the Gandhi Bharat program, marking Mahatma Gandhi’s historic presidency at the 1924 Congress Session held in Belagavi. In honor of Dr. Singh, Karnataka has declared Friday a government holiday and announced a seven-day mourning period in the state.
The central government has also declared a seven-day national mourning. Shivakumar added that all government events in Karnataka will remain suspended.
