A diesel tanker overturned on the Halaga-Bastawad stretch of the National Highway in Belagavi on Wednesday afternoon, spilling a significant amount of fuel onto the road.
The tanker, traveling from Belagavi to Bailhongal, lost control and tipped over, causing a major diesel spill. The accident resulted in damages worth several lakhs of rupees.
Hirerbagewadi police quickly responded, blocking traffic nearly a kilometer away to avoid further incidents. The fire department later sprayed water on the tanker to minimize the risk of a fire.
The tanker, which had been refueled in Desur, was carrying thousands of liters of diesel when the crash occurred. The spill created a traffic jam that stretched 2-3 kilometers and lasted for over two hours. Once the situation was contained, authorities diverted traffic to the service road.
