In a tragic road accident near Chikkabagewadi village in Bailhongal taluk, Belagavi on Monday, three members of a family, including a one-year-old child, were killed on the spot following a head-on collision between an SUV and a car.
According to police, the SUV, driven by Sureshgouda Patil — son of former MLA R. V. Patil and a resident of Savadatti — was heading towards Bailhongal, while the car was en route to Hirebagewadi when the collision occurred.
The victims have been identified as Anees Sayyad (23), his wife Aaiman (21), and their one-year-old son Aaimad, all residents of Hirebagewadi in Belagavi taluk. Two others sustained serious injuries, with Ayesha Anwar Sayyad currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Belagavi.
Initial investigations suggest that the SUV may have lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, leading to the head-on crash. One of the vehicles was thrown into a nearby agricultural field due to the impact, leaving it completely mangled, while the front of the SUV was extensively damaged.
A case has been registered, and Bailhongal police are continuing their probe.
