A disturbing case has emerged from a village in Belagavi taluk, where a mentally challenged young woman gave birth, sparking suspicions among locals about potential sexual abuse by her father. The alleged incident is reported to have occurred in February 2023.
Concerns were validated when ASHA workers conducted a health check on the young woman, prompting an NGO to file a formal complaint at the Belagavi Rural police station in the same month. Subsequent DNA testing confirmed that the newborn was indeed the child of the mentally challenged woman’s father.
Commissioner SN Sidramappa revealed that the police undertook a thorough investigation following the filed complaint, ultimately substantiating the accusations against the girl’s father. A chargesheet has been submitted to the court regarding this distressing case of sexual assault.
