A group of farmers in Belagavi district stopped the ongoing work at Rustumpur on Sunday, halting the digging of canals and installation of pipes aimed at diverting Ghataprabha river water from Hidkal Dam to Dharwad’s industrial area. The protestors demanded that the project be halted until the State government clarifies its approval status.
In response to the issue, a meeting was convened in Belagavi, attended by activists and farmers’ leaders, including Sujit Mulgund, Ramakant Konduskar, Rajkumar Topannanavar, Deepak Gudaganatti, and Sidagouda Modagi. The gathering condemned the canal work and called on the State government to cease the project, citing concerns that it would worsen water scarcity in Belagavi district.
