In Bailahongal taluk of Belgaum district, a disturbing incident occurred where a husband reportedly broke his wife’s leg during a dispute over refusing to arrange a child marriage for their 13-year-old daughter. The daughter is too young for marriage, and the husband, identified as Beeraappa, used violence against his wife, Maayavva, who is now undergoing medical treatment at the Bailahongal taluk hospital. Despite filing a complaint, there has been no police intervention so far.
In the village of Harugoppa, Beeraappa was pushing for a child marriage for his 13-year-old daughter. His wife, Maayavva, opposed this, leading to a heated altercation where Beeraappa reportedly broke her leg. Despite Maayavva’s stance against child marriage, she expressed frustration at her husband’s insistence, questioning if he still insisted on marriage, which led to the violent incident.
Beeraappa was pushing for an early marriage for his daughter with his elder brother’s son. The family opposed this decision, highlighting the girl’s young age of 13. Despite the family’s resistance, Beeraappa persisted, citing potential gains in property. This disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in Beeraappa allegedly breaking his wife Maayavva’s leg. Despite Maayavva’s objections to the marriage, she expressed frustration that her husband insisted on it, leading to the violent incident. Currently, Maayavva is receiving treatment at the hospital in Bailhongal taluk. Although a complaint has been lodged, the police have not taken any action against them so far. The incident unfolded in the jurisdiction of Muragod Police Station area of Belgaum.
