Belgaum’s Malmaruti police arrested Dayananda Ramu Jindrale (33), a resident of Anjaneya Nagar, Belgaum, originally from Islampur, Hukkeri Taluk, on charges of defrauding the public by impersonating a CBI officer.
The arrest came after Afzal Beedi of Auto Nagar filed a complaint at Malmaruti Police Station, alleging that Dayananda had taken Rs 5 lakh from him under false pretenses, promising medical treatment for a friend but failing to return Rs 50,000 and two cheques worth Rs 3 lakhs.
Dayananda allegedly deceived unemployed youths by posing as a CBI and AIC officer, promising them jobs in KSRTC, Forest Department, and Excise Department. Police investigations revealed similar frauds in Nippani, Raibag, Kagawad, Chikkodi, and Harugeri areas. The accused possessed 10 to 12 ATM cards and a Forest Department ID card.
Following his arrest, Dayananda was presented in court, and further investigations are underway.
