A coach derailed near Castle Rock between Caranzol and Belagavi in the early hours of Sunday, temporarily disrupting train operations. The incident took place around 2:30 am when an empty coach (No. 216385), being moved for Periodic Overhaul (POH), went off the tracks. No casualties were reported.
The derailment impacted train movement on the section. Train No. 18048 Vasco Da Gama – Shalimar, scheduled to depart at 6:30 am on May 25, was delayed by two hours and departed at 8:30 am. Additionally, Train No. 12780 Hazrat Nizamuddin – Vasco Da Gama, which began its journey on May 23, was halted at Londa station to prevent congestion and ensure safety.
South Western Railway (SWR) responded swiftly, providing breakfast, tea, and drinking water to around 1,000 passengers stranded at Londa. A breakdown train was dispatched from Vasco Da Gama, and the derailed coach was re-railed by 8:40 am—within six hours of the incident. After inspection, the track was cleared for operations and services resumed.
