On Saturday, an elderly farmer passed away following a crocodile attack along the banks of the Doodhganga River near Dattawad-Sadalga in Chikkodi taluk.
The farmer who passed away is Mahadev Punnappa Khure, aged 72, residing in Sadalga village of Chikkodi taluk. On May 10, while working on his land in the Kanti area alongside the river, Khure went for a bath after completing his farm chores. While swimming in the river, he was attacked by a crocodile as he returned to the river bank, according to local residents.
Mahadev, the farmer, had an injury mark on his left thigh. His body was discovered on the riverbank near Ramesh Pradhane’s farm on Saturday. Social worker Sukumar Ugare and other villagers retrieved the body from the riverbank. Mahadev is survived by his wife and two sons. The Sadalga police station registered a case, and after the autopsy report, the body was handed over to the family. The Doodhganga river has witnessed a significant increase in the number of crocodiles. This incident has heightened fear among the farmers regarding crocodile attacks.
