In a tragic incident near Agasganj on the Belgaum–Rajgoli road Thursday afternoon, a man who had tied the knot just eight days earlier lost his life in a road accident, while his wife sustained serious injuries.
The deceased has been identified as a 25-year-old Birappa Laxman Saibannavar from Kalammanagar, Kurbarhatti, Dhamane. His 22-year-old wife, Sridevi, was critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Belagavi.
According to the police, the couple was returning to Belagavi from Rajgoli on a two-wheeler when a speeding tipper truck rammed into them, leaving both seriously injured. They were rushed to a nearby private hospital, but Birappa succumbed to his injuries around 3.30 pm.
Kakati police were informed of the incident, following which Inspector Suresh Shinge and his team visited the spot and began an investigation.
